Punjab seeks 50 companies of Central forces

Chandigarh, May 17 (UNI) The Punjab government today asked for 50 companies of Central forces to be deployed in sensitive areas in the state in the wake of Sacha Sauda controversy.

An official spokesperson said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal spoke to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and apprised him of the situation which necessitated deployment of Central forces.

Earlier the Chief Minister held a meeting with top Civil and Police officials of the state to review law and order situation.

The meeting was attended among others by Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Media Advisor Harcharan Bains, Chief Secretary R I Singh, Home Secretary B C Gupta and state DGP N P S Aulakh.
