PMSF demands Venugopal's dismissal

New Delhi, May 17 (UNI) Pro-reservation faculty members, resident doctors and students from AIIMS and Maulana Azad Medical College today staged a demonstration here and demanded that the UPA government take stern action against individuals named by the Thorat Committee, which probed allegations of caste discrimination in AIIMS.

The protestors, under the banner of Progressive Medicos And Scientists Forum, submitted a memorandum to Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and also demanded action against AIIMS Director P Venugopal also.

''The UPA government and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should stop patronising rabid upper caste chauvinists like Dr Venugopal who are responsible for destroying the social, academic and cultural fabric of AIIMS as also other Institutes by the fact of encouraging the anti-reservation movement that engulfed so many more institutions of higher learning,''PMSF spokesperson Dr Vikas Bajpai said.

He said the Committee has clearly highlighted the role of Dr Venugopal in playing a proactive role in the organisation of the anti-reservation agitation.

Dr Bajpai said the recommendations made by the Committee to resolve the caste discrimination at the campus should be implemented.
