OHRC to probe into custody death- Naveen

Bhubaneswar, May 17 (UNI) Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik tonight ordered a probe into the alleged custodial death of a tribal inside the Brahmunitarang police station of Sundergarh police district by the Orissa Human Rights Commission(OHRC).

Chunilal Kisan(30) of Kalokudar village allegedly involved in a dacoity case in 2004 was found hanging inside the police station yesterday.

He was arrested by the police as a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against him for not attending the court in connection with the case.

The Chief Minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs.50,000 to the next kin of the deceased from the Chief Minister's relief fund.

According to police, Kisan committed suicide in the bathroom of the ''hazat'' by hanging himself from a towel last night.

Inspector General(Western Range) Pranabandhu Acharya, Rourkela's Superintendent of Police P Rabikant and other senior police officials had rushed to the spot for an on the spot investigation.
