Patna, May 17 (UNI) Nalanda University- the centre of Buddhist studies in ancient India, would soon re-emerge as a centre of Oriental studies.

Official sources here today said the university following its re-emergence would not only teach old courses based on Buddhism and other Oriental studies, but a number of modern subjects as well like Business and Economy, Astronomy, Mathematics, Science, Philosophy and studies on South and West Asia as well to the students from across the world by renowned faculties of each subject.

However, efforts were being made to find a suitable Chancellor of International repute who could head the revived institute and bring back its past glory.

Accordingly, a newly constituted Executive Council of the proposed university had shortlisted the names of three renowned academics for the post, from whom the final candidate would be selected.

Once the appointment of the Chancellor was finalised, steps would be initiated to select other senior officials including the Vice- Chancellor, Dean of Students, Registrar and the Examination Controller as per the norms of other leading Central Universities, the sources added.
