Munnar to be converted into major tourist centre: CM
Kannur, Kerala, May 17 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said the hill resort of Munnar in Idukki district would be converted into a major tourist centre after completion of the ongoing cleaning up operation against encroachment of Government land and illegal constructions there.
Addressing the valedictory function of the golden jubilee celebrations of the first Communist Government in the State here, he said building materials from the demolished constructions would be given to the poor for constructing houses.
Mr Achuthanandan said encroachment of Government land in Kovalam and other places would also be removed.
Detailing the achievements of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government in the State during the last one year, he said the Parassala-Manjeswaram waterway project would be completed in an year. Kollam-Kottappuram stretch of the waterway could be commissioned by August, he added.
