Mayawati raises minimum wages of agricultural labourers

Lucknow, May 17 (UNI) Showing her commitment towards the weaker and downtrodden sections of the society, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has raised the minimum daily wages of the agriculture labourers from Rs 58 to Rs 80.

Likewise, their minimum monthly wages have been revised from Rs 1,508 to Rs 2,080.

The UP government is of the opinion that it was essential to make the life of labourers happy and prosperous, which was only possible by improving their living standard, a release today said.

It further added the agricultural labourers are the unskilled lot and at their lowest rung of society, but no efforts were made for their upliftment in the past.

The Chief Minister had warned the respective DM's yesterday that they would be held responsible for any suicide due to financial crises.
