Left demands inquiry on encroachment of govt lands

Tirupati, May 17 (UNI) The left parties in Andhra Pradesh CPI and CPM today demanded the state government to conduct an inquiry into the illegal encroachment of the government lands in the temple town by ruling party leaders, factionists and land lords.

Addressing at a joint press conference, CPM district secretary K Murali and CPI district secretary Harinadh Reddy alleged that the district officials issued NOC for the registration of government lands illegaly occupied by the ruling party leaders.

They alleged that the police arrested the poor persons and their leaders, for protesting against the encroachment of government lands, during the Bhoporatam agitation (land struggle) and imposed false cases on them. They demanded that the government should arrest the real-estate owners, ruling party leaders, factionists and land lords who had illegally registered the public land by producing false reports.

They demanded that an enquiry should be conducted against those district officials who had issued NOCs.

They said police had arrested 1,057 persons, including 800 poor women, left party leaders who participated in Bhoporatam agitation on May six.

The left parties would continue the land struggle till justice was meted out to the poor, by giving house-sites as promised during the polls by the Congress(I) government.
