Kalam donates Rs 10-lakh to mentally challenged students

Kolkata, May 17 (UNI) Mesmerised by their efforts to sing and dance and the way they enthralled the audience with their beating of drums, President Abul Pakir Jainubadden Abdul Kalam today donated Rs 10 lakh to the physically challenged students of Manovikas Kendra after witnessing their performance.

'' I spent forty minutes with you and am very pleased with your efforts,'' Dr Kalam told the students and their teachers of Manovikash Bio-Medical Research&Diagnostic Centre, a home for 600 mentally and physically challenged children.

The students in groups sung, danced and played various musical instruments that enthralled the audience. Dr Kalam was seen rhythmically swaying his head from one side to the other in an effort to encourage the performers.

Dr Kalam also lauded the efforts of the teachers and parents of the Kendra for helping the students make the programme a success.
