New Delhi, May 17 (UNI) The Jallianawala Bagh National Memorial (JBNM) in Amritsar will be renovated and developed into a world class monument, according to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

An action plan would be drawn up for beautification, renovation and maintenance of cleanliness of the monument.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the JBNM Trust chaired by the Prime Minister and attended, among others, by Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Badal, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and former PM I K Gujral.

The meeting was held at Dr Singh's official residence at 7 Race Course Road here last evening.

The meeting decided to hand over certain adjoining buildings to JBNMT by Improvement Trust, Amritsar, for the expansion and beautification of the memorial.

A light and sound programme to be held daily would be started at the earliest so that the visitors would be familiarised with the various facets of April 13, 1919 tragedy. VCDs and DVDs of the show would be made available across the country as part of the awareness campaign.

Mr Badal agreed to raise some portions of the outer wall of the Jallianawala Bagh. The meeting discussed measures to immediately check the high pollution levels near the memorial.

It was also decided to instal life size painting of the Jallianawala Bagh massacre at the proposed museum and other national museums besides the Parliament House. National level seminars/symposia would be held regularly on the tragedy.
