HP University's Dean Studies terms SCA strike uncalled for
Shimla, May 17 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh University's (HPU) Dean of Studies Shiv Raj Chauhan today termed the Student Central Association's (SCA) strike from May 16 ''uncalled for and unwarranted''.
Addressing newspersons here, he said while the University authorities were trying to redress the grievances of students, they have decided to continue with their strike.
A meeting was arranged between the SCA representatives and the University Vice Chancellor on May 16 to resolve the crisis, but the students unilaterally decided to continue with their stir, he said.
Mr Chauhan said the SCA members had given a list of 43 demands to the authorities, which had already discussed 30 of their demands.
Terming the students demand to withdraw 75 per cent lecture condition in the departments of the university ''illogical'', he said the condition was necessary to maintain academic atmosphere.
''Students must adhere to attendance regulations and the authorities had earlier made it clear to students regarding this,'' he said.
He also rejected the students demand for revoking the expulsion of students who had been rusticated last year, saying these students were found to be guilty of harming the University's property.
