Hafed to revive its Barley Malt Plant
Chandigarh, May 17 (UNI) The Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (HAFED) has decided to revive its Barley Malt Plant at Jatusana in Rewari district.
Minister of State for Cooperation Meena Mandal said that HAFED would join hands with the Malt Division of United Breweries Ltd, Patiala for the revival of the plant on lease hold basis.
She said an agreement had been entered into with United Breweries Limited for this purpose. Under the agreement, besides the revival, the plant would be modified and upgraded in accordance with the latest technology.
She said that all this would be completed within a period of 12 to 18 months from the signing of the agreement. United Breweries had been asked to expand its existing capacity of 7000 MT Malt per annum to 10000 MT per annum.
Mrs Mandal said that Hafed's Barley Malt Plant, spread over an area of six acres was commissioned in 1989 with an installed capacity of 9000 MT per annum. After remaining in production for almost thirteen years, the plant was shut down in 2002. Since then it had been used for various warehousing activities by Hafed, she added.
She said that the lease period initially would be for seven years from the date it goes into commercial production. The lease rental has been finalised at the rate of Rs 50 lakh per annum from the dae of commercial production.
Ms Mandal said that prior consent of Hafed would be mandatory for making any additions or alterations as also improving the machinery of the plant.
A technical committee would be constituted with members drawn from Hafed and United Breweries. She said that Hafed would be the absolute owner of the plant in every respect.
She said that main objective of the agreement was to boost the ongoing farmer friendly endeavors of Hafed. United Breweries would be responsible for entering into tripartite agreement.
