Fresh polio cases detected in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra

Gulbarga, May 17 (UNI) A National Sub-Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme would be launched in 11 districts of Northern Karnataka following detection of fresh 'Polio Cases' in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Speaking to newsmen here, Gulbarga Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey said that on May 20 and 23 Polio immunisation programme would be conducted in 11 districts including Raichur, Gulbarga, Bidar and Bijapur as precautionary measure.

Mr Pandey said that two polio cases were detected in Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts in Andhra Pradesh and one case in Mumbai.

He said that 2254 polio booths would be established during sub-pulse polio immunization programme and over 4500 health personnel, besides volunteers from various non-governmental organistions would participate in the programme.
