FIR against MSU Senate member infructuous: court

Vadodara, May 17 (UNI) A local court today rejected a complaint registered against MSU senate member Deepak N Shah for making a provocative speech during the protest against a painting by fine arts student Chandramohan.

Ghulam Farid Yousufbhai Lakajiwala, through his lawyer M H Sheikh had moved the court earlier in the day, stating that Mr Shah had publicly offered Chandramohan to give Rs one lakh as reward if he sketches a nude picture of Prophet Mohammad. He registered a First Information Report (FIR) against him under IPC 153(A).

However, Sessions Judge Twinkle Jadhav asked if the petitioner had taken the state government's permission before registering the case. When the petitioner replied in negative, the judge said the case automatically stands rejected, as it was ''infructuous''.
