Canadian High Commissioner visits CORD

Dharamshala, May 17 (UNI) Canadian High Commissioner to India David Malone today visited Chinmaya Organisation for Rural Development (CORD) at Sidhari in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh and expressed satisfaction over its functioning on integrated health and rural development.

The Commissioner and Consul General Miss Helen visited the CORD office on part of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and Canadian NGO Chinmaya Mission Halton Region (CMHR), which have been financially supporting CORD since 1994.

CORD's national director Kshametre briefed the High Commissioner of its functioning in 550 villages in Kangra district and in one block of Hamirpur district.

The organisation is committed for the implementation of various programmes of social justice and informal legal facilitation and helps in micro credit through self help groups.

Ms Kshametra said women were the major focus of the CORD in all its programmes.
