Uttarkhand: Blast in gun powder factory kills 3

Dehra Dun, May 17: Three people were killed and six others injured in a blast at a gun powder factory here this morning.

Ten workers were inside the factory, near Shivlok Colony, when the blast took place at around 0720 hrs, sources said, adding about 150 kg of gun powder was stored in the factory.

Three workers were killed on the spot in the blast while it injured six others, three seriously, the sources added.

The injured have been admitted to the Doon hospital here, where condition of the two is stated to be critical.

The deceased have been indentified as Gam Bahadur, Ravi Prasad and Mohan Lal Sharma.

Other workers of the factory said had the blast taken place after 0800 hrs, the toll would have been devastating as 70 to 80 people work daily in the factory.

Meanwhile, manager of the factory has been arrested, police said.

Secretary of Shivalik Vikas Manch, Shivlok Colony, M S Kalsi said the blast was so strong that the windowpanes of several buildings were cracked.
