BJP announces schedule for campaigning by Shanta Kumar
Shimla, May 17 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh unit of the BJP today met State Election Commissioner Rajendra Bhattacharya and apprised her of the inclusion of several bogus voters in various wards of the town for the May 23 Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) elections.
A delegation led by party secretary H N Kashyap presented details of an area in a ward where more than 100 bogus voters had been enrolled for the elections, a party spokesman said in a release here.
He claimed that the State Election Commissioner had promised to look into the complaints and inform them of any action taken in this matter by 1700 hrs tomorrow.
Several irregularities have been found in the voter lists, which includes names of several people without their complete addresses, giving rise apprehensions that a large number of bogus voters had been included, he said.
The spokesman claimed that despite lodging several complaints with the state election commission no action had been taken to delete the bogus votes.
Accusing ministers of misusing official machinery for campaigning in favour of Congress candidates, he said they were making announcements in violation of he model code of conduct.
Meanwhile, another party release here said former union minister Shanta Kumar would address six corner meetings in different localities of the town tomorrow in favour of the party candidates for the Shimla Municipal Corporation elections.
He would address meetings at Summerhill, Cemetary, Sanjauli, Patyog, Ramnagar and Nabha areas of the town tomorrow, it added.
