Agitation against arrest of doctor couple

Madurai, May 17 (UNI) Up in arms against the arrest of a doctor couple here for allegedly administering wrong treatment to a seven-year-old boy leading to his death, Madurai district Government Doctors Association today sought their immediate release and withdrawal of all cases against them.

The Association, passing a resolution condemning the incident, also sought action against the police officer who effected the arrest and demanded forming medical teams in all districts to check recurrence of such incidents, Association Secretary K Senthil told newspersons here.

Pressing their demands, the Government doctors decided to desist from performing surgeries, except emergency ones, and issuing post mortem reports to the police, from today. A dharna would also be staged in front of the Rajaji Government Hospital here tomorrow.
