About 50 per cent students passes in PUC examination
Bangalore, May 17 (UNI) The pass percentage in the Pre-University Examinations in Karnataka this year had come down by about three per cent with 50.64 of the 457,187 students emerging with success.
Last year the pass percentage was 53.97.
Talking to newspersons here today, Pre University Board Commissioner S G Hegde said the girls, as usual, have fared better when compared to boys, with 57.77 per cent of them passing out as against 44.74 per cent of the boys.
He said in the old syllabus category, only 4810 students (13.17 per cent) were successful among 36,517 students, who had appeared for the examination.
Mr Hegde said the results would be announced at all the PUC colleges by 1600 hours tomorrow.
He said among the successful candidates, students belonging to Scheduled Castes registered 38.81 per cent, followed by Scheduled Tribes (41.82 per cent) and general merit category 57.71 per cent.
The Board Commissioner said the results were being announced within a month after the completion of the examination, as promised earlier and said that within couple of days the statement of marks would be sent to all the colleges in the state.
Mr Hegde said the results would also be made available on websites, while BSNL and Reliance also made arrangements to download the results.
He said while Dakshina Kannada ranked first with 80.33 per cent, Udupi came second with 79.65, followed by Uttara Kannada (67.37), Kodagu (66.93), Chikmagalur (66.34) and Shimoga (63.26).
Northern Karnataka districts, including Koppal, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bijapur and Bidar fared poor. Only 20.20 per cent of students have passed in Bidar district, he added.
He said the supplementary examinations will be held from July ten to July 20 for the unsuccessful candidates.
