AAI team arrives at AP airport to check ILS
Visakhapatnam, May 17(UNI) The five-member technical team from the flight inspection unit of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) arrived here today with their Dornier 228 aircraft for calibration of the instrument landing system (ILS) at the city airport.
Visakhapatnam Airport Controller C Pattabhi told UNI here the team would continue its job this evening and if necessary, tomorrow also.
The category-I ILS was installed at the airport here as there were frequent flight cancellations during winter due to smog. The ILS helped the pilot to land the aircraft safely even at 800 metre visibility.
''This morning they flew for about two hours as part of their job to fine tune ILS with the inbuilt instruments in their aircraft,'' he said.
The ILS had been installed as part of the Rs 200 crore expansion plan for the airport which included 10,000 foot new runway and night landing facility among others.
