12-parties demand resumption of peace talks
Guwahati, May 17 (UNI) A 12-party conglomerate today staged a dharna in front of the Raj Bhawan here demanding immediate talks between the Centre and the ULFA to stop violence in Asom.
The protestors stated that the violence the state had been witnessing could be curtailed only through dialogue between the ULFA and the government and blamed the state government for failing to check violence.
They also criticized the government for failing to check the rise in prices of essential commodities and power shortage in the state.
The protestors were led by former Chief Minister of Asom Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, PLP chief Pabindra Deka, NCP chief Dhirendra Deva Adhikari, AUDF leader Rohini Das and leaders of the other parties.
