Training to fresh college lecturers

Tiruchirapalli, May 16 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government has decided to impart in-service training to fresh college lecturers before posting, Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy said today.

Delivering the sixth convocation address at Pavendar Bharathidasan College of Arts and Science, here, he said the intense training programme for one or two months include newer methodology of teaching, logic and communication skills.

The main objective of the programme was to update the freshers with the latest developments and activities in various fields of science and humanities and also communication skill, which was still a grey area in college education, he added.

He said only seven per cent of students in the 16-25 age group were able to pursue higher education in India, compared to 60-70 percentage in developed nations.

Tamil Nadu, ranked sixth among other states in the country with 17 per cent, was working to ensure that at least 25 per cent of the students were able to pursue higher education, he added.
