Tibetan Olympics begin at Dharamshala
Dharamsala, May 16 (UNI) In order to highlight their plight, Tibetans exiled to Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh have organised their own Olympics, ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The 10-day ''Tibetan Olympics 2008'', which began here yesterday, would conclude on May 25, chief organiser of the Tibetan Olympics, Lobsang Wangyal, said today.
Since the Tibetans will not be allowed to participate in the Beijing Olypmics, they were organising their own sporting events to express their love and enthusiasm for the sports, he said.
He expressed the hope that the event will also attract peoples' attention towards their plight.
Mr Wangyal said sportspersons would participate in ten disciplines, including swimming, archery, shooting and other track and field events.
The Olympics have enthused the Tibetan youth who are looking forward to exhibiting their talents, he said.
