Ten years RI for smuggling cannabis in HP

Dharamshala, May 16 (UNI) A local court here in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh today convicted a person for smuggling cannabis and sentenced him to ten year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs one lakh.

Surender Kumar, a resident of Pathankot of Gurdaspur, was convicted under Sections 20, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act following his arrest at Jassur on the Pathankot-Mandi Highway on December six, 2002 after police recovered 250 gm cannabis from his possession.

The court, in its order, sentenced him to 10 years RI and a fine of Rs one lakh and another two years imprisonment on failing to pay the fine.
