Teenager dies while trying to prevent heist

New Delhi, May 16 (UNI) A 19-year-old boy died while trying to prevent a heist bid by three scooter-borne men in Jehangirpur area of North-West Delhi this afternoon.

Mayank died after the robbers fired at him when he tried to prevent them from snatching the bag containing Rs 24,000 his mother was carrying near 'C' Block MCD Park in Jehangirpuri at about 1300 hrs, said sources.

His mother Anita (40), who is a teacher in closeby Seva Bharti School, had withdrawn the amount from the bank and both were returning home on foot.

The assailants, who had come on a scooter snatched the bag and fled after firing at Mayank on his shoulder.

Mayank was immediately rushed to the Babu Jagjiwan Ram Hospital, later succumbed to his injuries.

His father Santosh is an employee in a private firm.
