Jaipur, May 16 (UNI) Hundreds of Sikhs protested and burnt the effigy of Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh here, saying he had insulted the Sikhs by donning the attire of 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh.

Gurudwara Prabandhak committee spokesman Gurmeet Singh said representatives from all gurudwaras converged at the Raja Park gurudwara and expressed their resolve to protect the religious tenets and symbols of Sikh Panth.

Traffic was halted as hundreds of Sikhs gathered at the Raja Park chowk, a locality mainly dominated by Sikhs, and demonstrated against the Dera Sacha Sauda chief and followers.

Trouble arose in Bhatinda in Punjab on Monday after a controversial advertisement appeared in some newspapers, showing the Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh alias Premiji in the attire of Guru Gobind Singh.

Sikh organisations including SGPC described this as a 'blasphemous act'.
