Rains, winds cool Delhi, mercury drops by 14 degree C

New Delhi, May 16 (UNI) Strong winds and a burst of heavy rains this evening cooled down Delhi, plummeting the mercury by 14 degrees Celsius, to 25 Degree C, bringing Delhiites much needed relief from the scorching heat of the last two days.

The rains and strong winds, blowing at a speed of 40 km/hour, hit Delhi at 1815 hours, bringing the mercury down from 39 Degree C to 25 Degree C, ushering in a cool air in the capital.

About 15mm of rainfall was recorded till 2030 hours, the weather office said.

The cool winds and a consequent fall in mercury brought the people of Delhi much needed relief from the scorching heat in the city since yesterday.

After a cool weather for the last over a week, scorching heat conditions returned to torment Delhiites since yesterday as the mercury shot up to 42.7 degrees Celsius, the highest for the season.

Weathermen attribute the rain and thundersqualls to the influence of a fresh Upper air circulation.

Infact, weathermen have forecast more rains and thundershowers in Delhi, accompanied by squall, during the next 48 hours under the influence of the upper air circulation.

They have also forecast a drop in day temperature in the Northwest Indian region during the next few days.

Today too, there was no relief from the seasing heat during the day.
