Punjabi Univ to move court against Punjab Kesri, Jagbani

Patiala, May 16 (UNI) Punjabi University, Patiala, has decided to initiate civil and criminal proceedings against two newspapers of the Hind Samachar Group, Punjab Kesri and Jagbani for their alleged "ill-intentioned, malicious and defamatory coverage against the University".

The Director, Public Relations of the University, in a letter to Punjab Kesri Chief Editor Vijay Chopra, Joint Editor, Mr.

Avinash Chopra, Director, Mr Amit Chopra and their Patiala-based correspondent, Mr Rajesh Kumar, has said that the two newspapers have been "consistently and unabatedly resorting to unethical, uncalled for and irresponsible coverage about Punjabi University for the last about three months.

The letter claimed that the coverage by these two newspapers had been spoiling the peaceful and congenial ambiance of the University.

The University has banned both Punjab Kesari and Jagbani in the University library, all its offices and departments on the University campus, its regional centres and neighbourhood campuses.

The University has also sent the detailed reports about the allegedly ill-intentioned, malignant, defamatory and self styled coverage by these two papers to the Press Council of India, Editors Guild of India, Indian Newspapers Society, Chief Editors/Editors of all the newspapers and magazines of India and abroad.
