Mandsaur, MP, May 16 (UNI) Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Sunderlal Patwa has advocated a two-party system as ''proper'' for democracy.

''General elections should be conducted only once in five years to ensure that the government receives an adequate opportunity for bringing in development,'' he told mediapersons here yesterday in response to President A P J Abdul Kalam's recent suggestion in that context.

Claiming that the Uttar Pradesh's mandate would have far-reaching consequences on national politics, BJP leader Patwa admitted that his party could not achieve the desired success in that state due to its weakness.

Mr Patwa was here to take part in a cancer treatment camp organised by the Wardha-based Akhil Bharatiya Krishi Gau Seva Samwardhan.
