No proposal to introduce sex education in school, J and K government

Srinagar, May 16 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir government has clarified that there is no proposal to introduce sex education in the educational institutions in the state.

Dispelling all speculations and rumours, Minister for Education and Haj Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed said question of sex education in the schools does not arise at all.

The Muslim Ulmas in the Kashmir valley recently joined Dukhtaran- e- Millat (Daughters of Faith), to oppose introduction of sex education in the educational institutions.

They condemned the move by the government to introduce sex education in the valley they, asked the people to register their protest and oppose it ''tooth and nail''.

The chairperson Dukhtaran-e- Millat, a womens separatist organisation Asiya Andrabi has threatened to launch an agitation if sex education is introduced in schools in Kashmir.

The ulmas said the move is part of nefarious Indian designs to perpetuate obscenity and vulgarity in the society through the introduction of sex education in schools in Kashmir Mr Sayed said that government has asked all the 30,000 government and private schools of the state to strictly teach moral education to students.

He said under a pilot Project on value education, consistent with the local cultural ethos, 100 schools are being covered under the project.

Mr Sayeed, who is also Congress president in the state, said that as a result of workshops and interactions with prominent educationists and academicians, 50 odd modules on value education were formulated and debated upon, out of which 22 modules have been cleared.

The themes chosen for this pilot project include adherence on truth, honesty, sincerity, parents rights, sacrifice, selflessness, gender issues, life skills, balanced emotional development, environmental issues, neighbours rights and help to disabled.
