JTF rallies behind Chandramohan
New Delhi, May 16 (UNI) The Jamia Teachers' Forum (JFT )today condemned the attack on Chandramohan, a fine arts post-graduate student of Vadodara's M S University facing charges of hurting public sentiments, saying the BJP's fascist ideology left no creative space for individual expression and freedom.
''We condemn the attack on basic academic freedom... The BJP's fascist ideology, that holds regressive and obscurantist values leaves no creative freedom,'' JTF President S I A Zaidi said. Demanding security for students and teachers at the university, Prof Zaidi said action should be taken against people responsible for the attack.
''That such brutal attack should take place on the premises of an academic institution with the connivance of the University administration is still more appalling,'' he added.
The Jamia Teachers' Forum also demanded that all charges against Chandramohan be withdrawn immediately.
Chandramohan, a native of Andhra Pradesh was arrested from the university campus on May 9 for allegedly hurting public sentiments through his 'obscene' exhibits of Vishnu and Jesus Christ.
Five days later on May 14, a local court in Vadodara released Chandramohan on bail bond of Rs 5,000.
VHP and BJP workers barged into the Fine Arts faculty of the University and vandalised art exhibits of gods and goddesses created by Chandramohan.
