Heat wave conditions prevail in parts of Haryana

Chandigarh, May 16 (UNI) Heat wave conditions prevailed in parts of Haryana even as the temperatures dipped in the plains following rains at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh today.

The tempertures, after soaring yesterday, hovered one degrees to three degrees below normal in Punjab and Haryana.

Hisar turned out to be the hottest place in the state, registering a maximum at 44.3 degrees Celsius while Ambala recorded 37.1 degrees, three degrees below normal, and Karnal 38.0 degrees, two degrees below normal.

Heat wave conditions prevailing in western parts of the state are likely to abate tomorrow, according to the Met Office here.

In Punjab, the maximum plummeted at Amritsar, Patiala and Ludhiana respectively recording 38.0 degrees, 38.9 degrees and 38.6 degrees Celsius.

Chandigarh and its adjoining areas in Punjab and Haryana were lashed by dusty winds in the morning, dipping the temperature and providing respite to the people from scorching heat. The city recorded 38.0 degrees Celsius against 40.6 degrees registered yesterday.

Parts of Himachal Pradesh, including Bhuntar, Shimla, Sundernagar, Una, Kalpa, Bhang-Manali, Dhundi and Solang Nullah experienced rains bringing a sharp fall in the soaring temperatures.

The mercury hovered seven degrees below normal at Bhuntar in Kullu disrict, recording 23.8 degrees while Sundernagar in Mandi district registered 29.6 degrees and Kalpa in Kinnaur district showed 22.5 degrees Celsius. The capital town of Shimla, which was lashed by rains, recorded 24.8 degrees Celsius.

The Met office has predicted rains or thundershowers at many places in Himachal Pradesh, few places in Punjab and isolated places in Haryana during the next 24 hours.

It also predicted duststorm or thunderstorm at few places in Haryana and isolated places in Punjab and hailstorm or thundersquall at isolated places in the region.
