Headmasters to observe fast in Chennai

Tiruchirapalli, May 16 (UNI) The Tamilnadu Higher Secondary School Headmasters Assocation has decided to observe a one-day fast at Chennai in July, to press their demands.

The fast would be observed to demand revision of basic pay of higher secondary school headmasters on par with central government pay scales, those serving in the department of school education be appointed as District Educational Officer on seniority basis instead of direct recruitment, among other things, Association President N Ammaiyappan told UNI here.

He said the association was also demanding that headmasters of Higher Secondary School be appointed as personal assistants to the Chief Educational Officers (CEOs) and those with M.Phil qualification given incentive increments.

Objecting to the recent introduction of 'school audits' by the Department of School Education, he said it should not be conducted during summer vacation due to unavailability of teachers.

Audits should be held during quarterly or half-yearly holidays,he said and wanted audit panels included with senior headmasters from higher secondary.

If the demands were not met by the government, the association would launch a series of agitations, he said adding that members of the association, prior to the fast would stage demonstrations in front of the offices of CEOs in the districts from June 25 to 29.
