Chandigarh, May 16 (UNI) The Haryana government has earmarked about Rs 2700 crore for the promotion of education during the current financial year, making it a priority area.

This was stated by Haryana Education Minister Phool Chand Mullana while talking to media persons here today.

He said Edusat and semester systems, which have been introduced by the State Government have proved a boon for the students.

Haryana was the first State to successfully introduce semester system in schools and it had helped in improving learning environment through more regular teaching, reduced stress on students and provided a student friendly examination system.

Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Education) R S Gujral, who is also chairman of Haryana School Education Board, said Haryana had become the third state to introduce re-evaluation system for schools.

Earlier, there was a system of recounting of marks only for final examination, but now in case of any doubt about marks scored in a particular subject, the students have an opportunity to get their answer-sheets re-evaluated.

However, they will have to pay a fee of Rs 1000 per subject.

Mr Gujral said that it has also been decided to make it mandatory for all schools under the ambit of the Board to have a computer equipped with internet facility for which Rs 12,000 would be given as subsidy by the Board to the schools for meeting the cost of computer.

This decision would speed up the procedure to send marks of unit tests to the Board.

Director General (School Education) K K Khandelwal said that plasma TV sets had been provided to 800 schools out of 1200 senior secondary schools. Similarly, out of 9080 primary schools, 1800 have been connected to Edusat system.
