Gujarat's first food park to come up at Jamnagar

Jamnagar, May 16 (UNI) Chennai-based Contriental Warehousing Corporation Limited (CWC) will set up the first ever 'Food Park' here at a cost of Rs 300 crore.

The phase I of the park was inaugurated last evening by State Agriculture Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama here. The park will play an important role in transporation of agriculture produce from the state to consuming centres.

It will be established under the ''Vibrant Gujarat'' agreement, signed between the company and state government.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chudasama said the agriculture production in Gujarat is rising and has touched Rs 32,000 crore as against Rs 9,000 crore five years ago. The state is now a major producer of Cotton and the area under cultivation has also gone up to 86 lakh hectares as against 78 lakh hectares.

The food park will have processing unit, cold storage, transporation and other facilities, he added.

Mr Chudasama said a mega food park will also be established in Ahmedabad. The state government has also planned to set up five food parks at different places, including Banaskantha and Surat, at a cost of Rs 800 crore.
