Govt to take action against those involved in DPEP scam

Hyderabad, May 16 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, DPEP and Adult Education M Hanumantha Rao today said the government would take stern action against those involved in the District Primary Education Programme (DPEP) scam worth several crores of rupees.

Addressing a press conference here, the Minister said the exact amount misappropriated would be known only after the completion of the CID inquiry ordered by the government. The amount transferred into the fictitious account would be known after the completion of the inquiry, he added.

He said the government would not take a lenient view on the matter. The education department had urged the finance department to inquire into the demand drafts transferred into the fictitious account.

Assistant Accounts officer Subrahmaniam and the alleged mastermind in the scam Sarasadevi had been arrested in connection with the misappropriation of DPEP funds.
