Govt to set up committee to study forest land encroachment

Bangalore, May 16 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today suggested formation of a Committee, comprising top bureaucrats of five departments, to study in detail the encroachment of forest land issue and submit a report to him within three months.

Addressing senior officials of various departments here, after discussing the issue with people's representatives, he said the problem persisted in several districts, including Shimoga, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Kodagu and Chikmagalur.

He exhorted the officials to wake up from their slumber and work for the progress of the people. Under any circumstance, the time limit for the preparation of a comprehensive report would not be extended, he warned.

According to details available with the State Government, the total encroachment of forest land in the State was around 28,000 hectares.
