Girl among three engg students drowned in Yamuna

Shimla, May 16 (UNI) Three engineering students, including a girl from neighbouring Punjab, drowned while taking a bath in Yamuna River at Poanta Sahib in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh this morning, police sources said.

They said, a group of eight students on a picnic were taking bath in the river when three slipped and were carried away by the strong water current at about 1000 hrs this morning.

The dead have been identified as Vijay Anand from Kullu district, Samhil from Mandi district and Hemant Singh, a girl from the neighbouring state of Punjab, the sources said.

Their bodies were recovered from the river after a few hours and handed over to the relatives after post mortem examination, the sources said, adding that a case had been registered and investigations were on.
