Former Cooptex Chairman's son arrested
Chennai, May 16 (UNI) The city police have arrested the son of a former AIADMK leader and Cooptex Chairman for allegedly demanding more money from a real estate developer in connection with a land transaction.
Police said Santhosh (30) and his father E V Perumalsamy Reddy had entered into a land sale deed with a popular real estate firm in March last year for selling their 31 grounds of prime land near Koyambedu at Rs 31 crore and received a portion of the amount as advance.
However, later, the arrested and his family members demanded Rs 60 crore more and threatened the realtor with dire consequences if he failed to shell out the amount, prompting the latter to seek the High Court's intervention. The Court directed the city police to arrest Santhosh and his family members, following which a case was registered against them.
Police were on the look out for Mr Perumalsamy and five others.
