DSP, SHO among several wounded in south Kashmir clash
Srinagar, May 16 (UNI) Scores of people, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), a Station House Officer (SHO) and ten other police personnel, were wounded in violent clashes at Verinag in Anantnag district of south Kashmir today, sources said.
Sources said hundreds of people, mostly drivers, had gathered at Verinag to protest the non-availability of taxi and bus stands in the area.
They said the drivers also complained that they were not being allowed to ply their taxis and buses on different routes.
As the protests turned violent, police used batons and fired teargas shells to disperse the stone-pelting mob.
Scores of people, including a DSP and an SHO, were wounded in the pitched battle between the protestors and the police.
The police later arrested about 30 people allegedly involved in the violent clashes, sources added.
The situation at present was tense, but under control.
