Dell to now focus on PSEs, education sector

New Delhi, May 16 (UNI) After consolidating their market position in private corporate sector, Dell, desktop and notebook maker, will now shift its focus to tap the public sector enterprises and rapidly growing education sector.

''In a couple of years the personal computer market in India will grow at a rate of 20 per cent in public sector and education verticals and we hope to grab a significant space in these sectors.'' Dell India Vice-President and General Manager Rajan Anandan told reporters here today.

The company also held discussions with a large group of delegates in this regard, he added.

''The government is among the largest buyers of computer systems in the country and we have put in place a strong team to address opportunities in these segments,'' added Mr Anandan.

The company also feels that India has a big notebook market.

''The notebook market in India will be 1.5 million units from couple of years.'' The strategy that Dell will adopt will be direct contact rather than relying on intermediaries.

''Our strategy is centered around the customer's needs and makes it easier to grow by providing optimised solutions that are engineered to simplify operations and maximise value,'' Mr Anandan said.

Dell clients includes Railways, Electronics Corporation of India (ELCOT), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Union Bank of India.

India's personal computer sales, desktops and notebooks, witnessed a 28 per cent year-on-year growth to touch 1.39 million units in October-December 2006, fuelled by surge in notebook off take.
