Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, May 16 (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) new Democracy Central Committee General Secretary Prakash Raj today said his party would oppose forcible eviction of farmers for any development either of industries or Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

Addressing mediapersons here, he said the party would oppose giving land to MNCs, besides converting agricultural land into industrial areas.

As far as irrigation projects of Andhra Pradesh were concerned, there was lot of displacement and such displacement would only be supported with rehabilitation, he added.

Mr Prakash stated, in many states the SEZ problem continued without rehabilitation. In the name of development, land was being taken away which was devastating the country, hence the SEZ Act should be scrapped, he added.

He condemned the repression of the cadres in the state. Cases were being foisted against those who were opposing the irrigation projects in the state, he alleged.
