Kolkata, May 16 (UNI) Calcutta High Court today issued contempt rules against the state public works department minister and two senior officials for alleged violation of appointment policy.

Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharyya asked PWD minister Kshiti Goswami, his chief secretary and his principal secretary as why contempt rules should not be issued against them for violating the rules, framed by the government for appointing its employees.

Justice Bhattacharyya passed the ruling on a petition filed by eight candidates who were selected in a list for appointment in PWD department but later found their names dropped to include others as per liking of the minister.

The petitioners alleged that the PWD department had conducted an examination in 1997 for appointing employees in a department and a list containing 254 successful candidates was published. The petioners stated before the court that names of 23 candidates were deleted from the list on the order of the minister.

The matter will come up for hearing by the first week of June.
