Congress demands CBI inquiry into IGP nexus with criminals

Bhubaneswar, May 16 (UNI) The Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) today demanded CBI inquiry into the alleged nexus between a senior Inspector General of Police and criminals from Jharkhand Condemning the protection given by a senior IGP in the state to the criminals from Jharkhand, OPCC president Jayadev Jena said the government must take action against the senior IPS for shielding the miscreaants.

Mr Jena told newspersons that the series of Bank dacoities in the state, the loot of Rs 23 lakh from the LIC branch in Bhadrak and the attack on Congress MLA Dhanurjaya Sidhu had clearly indicated that the criminals from Jharkhand were actively involved.

It was most shocking and unfortunate that a senior IPS officer of the rank of the Inspector General of Police had involved himself in protecting these criminals, the OPCC president said and dared the government to order a CBI inquiry instead of a Crime Branch inquiry to expose the nexus.

Mr Jena also demanded that the state government should publish a white paper on the number of crimes conducted by the criminals from undivided Bihar during the last seven years in the state.

He alleged that though the Director General of Police(DGP) had submitted a report to the government against the IG police for his alleged involvement with the criminals from Jharkhand,the state government had suppressed the report for more than a month.It was only recently after the newspapers reported the incident,that the matter was being probed for the second time by the DGP.

The Congress leader said the police had recorded all information in a video CD on the nexus of the senior IPS officer with the criminals from Jharkhand and demanded that the VCD be made public stating that the people have the right to know its contents.
