CM directs month long sanitation drive in urban areas

Lucknow, May 16 (UNI) Expressing concern over the ''poor'' infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Mayawati today directed the officers to launch a month long special sanitation drive to ensure better civic amenities in urban areas.

The monitoring of this special drive would be done by the senior officers of urban bodies, besides commissioners of the concerning municipal corporations and concerning DMs of the Nagar Palika Parishads/Panchayats.

At the end of the drive, the divisional commissioners and DMs would submit a detailed report of the works undertaken in their respective areas to the local bodies director.

The principal secretary Urban Development, Mr Amal Kumar Verma has issued detailed guidelines for the Divisional Commissioners, DMs, Municipal Commissioners, Jal Nigam MDs, Jal Sansthan GMs, chairmen/Executive officers of Nagar Palika Parishads and Nagar Panchayats to ensure better drinking water supply, streetlights and sanitation in the urban areas.
