Hyderabad, May 16 (UNI) The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today asked Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu to apologise to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his remarks against the latter on the Babli project issue.

Addressing a press conference here, State Roads and Building Minister T Jeevan Reddy and AICC Secretary and MLC P Sudhakara Reddy said Mr Naidu had hurt the self-respect of the people of Andhra Pradesh by saying that the Prime Minister was supporting the Maharashtra Government on the Babli project.

They alleged that Mr Naidu and other TDP leaders were resorting to blackmailing tactics on the Babli project and the issue of skull and bones logo on beedi packets and politicising them as they had no other issues to raise.

Blaming the TDP for the present situation on the two issues, the Congress leaders said that though the Maharashtra Government had given administrative sanction for the Babli project in 1995, the then TDP Government did not raise its voice then.

They said Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had been trying his level best to stop the construction of the project. Since the Supreme Court had given interim orders, directing the Maharashtra Government not to construct the Gates and obstruct inflow into the Sri Ramsagar Project till the final verdict, there was no point in TDP's agitation on the subject.

They said that instead of organising dharnas, they could argue the case before the Supreme Court in a proper way. The Government had engaged a senior lawyer to present its case.

They alleged that the TDP, during its nine year rule, had not taken up any developmental activities, including irrigation projects, for the development of the Telangana region.
