AP govt accords powers to RPDB Chairmen

Hyderabad, May 16 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh government today allocated powers to the Chairmen of the newly-constituted Regional Planning and Development Boards (RPDBs) being set up in four regions of the state.

Briefing the press after the cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy at the Secretariat, state Energy Minister Mohd Ali Shabbir said the Chairmen of four RPDBs, constituted in Telangana, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra and North Andhra regions, would have the authority to take up developmental works at a cost Rs 50 lakh in every Assembly constituency in their region.

Stating that the powers enjoyed by the in-charge ministers in taking up the development works in the constitutencies were tranferred to the Chairmen of Regional development Boards, the minister said the Board meeting would be conducted every three months under the leadership of the Chairman.

The Chairmen would also have the rights to recommend to the government taking up road construction and drinking water projects sanctioned under NABARD and HUDCO schemes, he added.

Last month, the state government had constituted the Boards to achieve development in all regions, removing regional disparities existing since several decades.
