AP Government approves irrigation schemes

Hyderabad, May 16 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government has accorded administrative approval to take up the works of Pranahita-Chevalla Lift Irrigation Scheme for diversion of 160 TMC water from Pranahitha river to Sripada Sagar Project.

According to an official release here, the project would be taken up at a cost of Rs 17,876 crore for creating additonal Ayacut of 12 lakh acres in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad and Ranga Reddy districts.

The drinking water and industrial requiremnets in the Telangana region would be met by the project.

The Government had also given sanction to take up Lift Irrigation Project from Dummagudem to Nagarjunasagar Project Tail Pond at a cost of Rs 8930.08 crore.

The project envisaged lifting of 165 TMC of flood water at Dummagudem in Godavari river to tail pond of Nagarjunasagar dam on Krishna river to facilitate and supplement irrigation under Nagarjunsagar Project.
