24th Border personnel meeting between Indian and Chinese Army held
Gangtok, May 16 (UNI) The 24th Border Personnel meeting held yesterday on the Chinese side at Nathu La where a 15-member army delegation each from the Indian Army and the People's Liberation Army attended, an army release said here today.
The Indian Army delegation was led by Brigadier S L Narasimhan whereas the PLA team was led by Senior Colonel Shi Hui Yang.
This Border Personnel Meeting holds special significance in light of the opening of the Border Trade Route between India and China last year through the Nathu La Pass, the release said.
The meeting was held in an extremely cordial atmosphere on the Chinese side at Nathu La with both sides discussing issues related to improvement of bilateral relations and maintaining peace and tranquility along the border, the release stated.
Amidst melodious tunes played by the Indian Army and Peoples Liberation Army bands, the border was opened for the delegation for over three hours. Both bands also played their national anthems.
A special border personnel meeting to commemorate the Independence Day will be held on the Indian side of the border on August one.
