UPA Govt to honour Atal's promise to Nagaland

New Delhi, May 15: The Government would fulfil the promise of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee of revival of the Nagaland Pulp and Paper Co Ltd at Tuly in Nagaland, the Rajya Sabha was told today.

Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour, Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Santosh Mohan Dev said a revival package for the sick PSU had been approved envisaging a total assistance of Rs 788 crore.

The Government assistance would come in the form of fresh infusion of funds, waivers/write offs and others.

Production in the paper mill had been suspended since July 1992.

NPCC at Tuli was incorporated in 1971 as a joint venture between Hindustan Paper Corporation and the State Government. The mill was commissioned in July 1982 with an installed capacity of 33,000 metric tonne per annum.

The Minister said proposals for revival of 25 other sick PSUs had also been approved based on the recommendations of Board for Reconstruction of Public Sector Enterprises(BRPSE). A decision has also been taken to close one Central Public Sector Enterprise involving total assistance of Rs 788 crore.

The ministries and departments concerned had been advised to expedite their recommendations in respect of the proposals pending with them, he said.
