TRAI enlarges Auditor's panel for metering, billing of telcos

New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) In order to bring uniformity and transparency in the procedures being followed by the service providers with regard to metering and billing, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today empanelled seven more firms in the panel of Auditors for the purpose.

The step taken will help prescribe standards relating to the accuracy of measurement, reliability of billing and minimise the incidences of billing complaints, a TRAI statement said.

To protect the interest of consumers of telecommunication services, TRAI had issued the Quality of Service (Code of practice for metering and billing accuracy) Regulation, 2006 which provides for notification of a panel of Auditors by TRAI and the service provider have to get audited their metering and billing system.

TRAI had notified a panel of seven auditors in August/September 2006. The audit for the financial year 2006-07 through the auditors in this panel is currently under progress.
